Self Esteem effects everything!

 What is self esteem?

Each individual has a different opinion of what normalcy and what type of person they portray. This is what can make or break self-esteem of an individual. Self esteem of an individual can change at any time. Certain situations and life events often create an impact on one's self esteem. When one focuses on the negative impact of an event it may create a weakness for an individual. Self  esteem is that of the confidence that one has of themselves. People can view individuals differently than what they may actually be experiencing. For example, everyday I walk with a smile, joke laugh and remain positive and strong after my son passed away and everything I have been through this year. However, the truth may be the opposite. I find myself grieving in a different way. The high self esteem and thinking positive about life helps one bounce back to everyday normalcy.

Self esteem is related to mental health in various ways. It can effect the way that one deals with stress on a daily basis and this can bring the body down if handled negatively. The way that one thinks and believes about themselves can be a huge impact. As stated by " Low self-esteem alone is not a recognized mental health problem, but if you have low self-esteem it will have an effect on your mental health. Holding negative beliefs about yourself lowers your resilience and ability to cope with the stresses of life. This can place you at a higher risk of developing mental health problems such as eating disorders, depression or social phobia, which are closely related to your mood and self-belief. Low self-esteem can be triggered or made worse by existing mental health problems, such as a panic disorder or schizophrenia. You may find that the pressure of other symptoms and the stigma associated with mental health problems impacts on the way you see yourself."
